Discoveries 76 - 100

Suspected deep sky objects that are, to the best of my knowledge, unknown and undesignated. Most of these were stumbled upon on DSS images while compiling CSOG observing guides. A few asterisms, possibly open clusters were seen during observing runs.

Before posting, I check multiple images (DSS, SDSS, DECaLS) to rule out artefacts. Once an object is determined to be real I check SIMBAD, NED, HyperLeda (for suspected galaxies), possible planetary nebulae, historical catalogs (for nebulae) and every available catalog in AstroPlanner.

The majority of these objects were reported on the Deep Sky Hunters group.

Whenever it is brought to my attention that an object that I suspected to be unknown / uncataloged / undesignated was indeed recognized before, I will remove it from my list and update the numbering accordingly.

Suspected nature of object

Nebula(e) or supernova remnant

Description

Two extremely faint lobes of nebulosity, separated by 12'.
Approximately 12 and 22 minutes of arc, respectively, east of the position of Sharpless 2-85 (which was a suspected plate fault).
The northwestern lobe has a slightly curved shape, is approximately 10'×3' in size and tapers towards the northeast. The southeastern lobe is approximately 3'×1' in size and is oval shaped.

Suspected nature of object

Asterism or open cluster

Description

A small group of stars that is not well detached from the surrounding starfield, approximately 3' in size. Brightest star on the northeastern edge is mag. 11.3. The position is 3' northeast of the star that is designated Kohoutek 4-35 (PK 057+02.1).
The results of the Gaia EDR3 analysis by Bruno Alessi were ambiguous; this is more likely to be an asterism than an open cluster.
